Los Angeles: As the US grapples with large scale anti-immigration protests, which have hit several states across the country, the Governor of Texas Greg Abbott took to social media platform, ‘X’ to announce that the National Guard will be deployed in the state. He said that the National Guard will use every tool to maintain law and order in the state.
Abbott wrote on ‘X’, “Texas National Guard will be deployed to locations across the state to ensure peace & order. Peaceful protest is legal. Harming a person or property is illegal & will lead to arrest. Texas Guard will use every tool & strategy to help law enforcement maintain order.”

Law enforcement officers on frontlines
The Governor said that the law enforcement agencies are on the frontlines to keep Texas a law and order state. He said that in order to support the forces, he was signing a law to ensure they can use every tool available to combat criminals without being targeted by rogue prosecutors. He declared that the state needed to support their law enforcement officers.
The decision by the Governor comes after the Donald Trump government deployed troops in Los Angeles in response to mass protests, following anti-immigration raids. A report in Firstpost claimed that Los Angeles currently has more military personnel than Iraq and Syria combined.
On Monday, 2,000 National Guardsmen were deployed in Los Angeles. They joined the initial 2,000 Guardsmen deployed in the Californian city, alongside 700 Marines, So the total troop deployment in Los Angeles reached 4,800, which is much higher than the 2,500 troops currently in Iraq and Syria.
Protests spread to different states
The protests against President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown have spread beyond Los Angeles. On Tuesday nights thousands had gathered in at least 2 dozen cities, to protest against the government’s move. Some of the cities which have seen protests include New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Washington, DC.
Apart from protests by common people, political and legal tensions are also rising over deploying military forces for domestic immigration enforcement. President Trump meanwhile has called the protestors, “animals” and “a foreign enemy”. He also called their acts “invasion” and justified sending the National Guard troops and Marines to the city to control them.
