After an extensive two-day manhunt, the authorities have finally arrested Vance Boelter (57). The man is the prime suspect in the fatal shooting of state representative Melissa Hortman and her husband. He is also charged with attacking state senator John A Hoffman and his wife, Yvette.
On Sunday, Boelter was arrested in Sibley County, just 1 hour’s drive from the crime scene. Earlier in the day, the security forces discovered his car and hat, leading to an emergency alert and search in the area.
Who is Vance Boelter?
Boelter and Senator Hoffman have both been part of the Governor’s Workforce Development Board. However, the officials are unsure whether they knew each other. No link could be confirmed between the two.

During the probe, the officers found a fake police vehicle containing a “manifesto” which enlisted names of multiple lawmakers, Planned Parenthood locations and organisations across Minnesota, the Midwest, and even Washington, DC. The Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, has called the attacks “targeted political violence.
CEO of private security firm
Boelter worked at a funeral home and lived near Green Isle, Minnesota. He possessed several guns. He is the CEO of a private security firm named Red Lion Group and the director of security patrols at Praetorian Guard Security services. These Companies use vehicles which look similar to US police cars. His wife, Jenny, is also listed as president of one of the firms.
Educational qualification
Boelter describes himself as “Dr” in all his profiles on the internet. He holds a doctorate in educational leadership and a master’s degree in management. Information from his LinkedIn shows that he studies at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee.
Faith
According to reports, Boelter is an Evangelical Christian and has delivered sermons in Africa. In one of the videos, he is seen criticising the LGBTQ+ community and calling them “the enemy”, accusing them of confusing people about their identity.
