Washington: The US Embassy in India has issued a strong advisory for Indian travellers heading to the United States. In its recent statement, the embassy said that Washington “will not tolerate any abuse of visas or illegal entry” into the country.

This warning follows the widespread circulation of a video on social media showing an Indian student in handcuffs at Newark Airport.

“The United States continues to welcome legitimate travelers to our country.  However, there is no right to visit the United States.  We cannot and will not tolerate illegal entry, abuse of visas, or the violation of U.S. law, ” the post on X said.

A video showing an Indian student handcuffed by officials at Newark Liberty International Airport has gained significant attention online. Shared by Indian-American entrepreneur Kunal Jain, the footage depicted the student in distress, reportedly crying and treated like a “criminal.” According to Jain, the student faced deportation from the United States to India.

The Indian Consulate General in New York responded to the viral video, confirming they are addressing the issue with local officials. “We have come across social media posts claiming that an Indian national is facing difficulties at Newark Liberty International Airport. We are in touch with local authorities in this regard,” stated the Indian authorities on X.

This incident occurs against the backdrop of President Donald Trump’s stringent immigration policies. His administration has implemented tough measures, including widespread deportations and the use of the National Guard in Los Angeles to break up protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), alongside stricter
