Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping held virtual talks after Donald Trump took office of US president for the second time. The meeting comes just 24 hours after Trump took oath of office as the 47th President of US.
The two leaders reportedly discussed ways to counter hawkish policies of Trump towards the two countries. The two leaders have also reportedly decide to work jointly on a host of issues that concerns the two nations in view of Trump’s return to White House.
Virtual talks 24 hours after Trump takes office
According to Chinese broadcaster CCTV, Xi Jinping and and Russian President Putin held talks through video conferencing. The virtual talks also come in the backdrop of a phone call between Xi Jinping and Donald Trump last Friday when they discussed Ukraine conflict.
In his last tenure as President, Donald Trump imposed heavy tarriffs on Chinese imports causing a massive trade war between the two nations.
Russia and China have close diplomatic, military and trade ties and it is believed that Xi Jinping hold a sway over Moscow and may be helpful in ending the Ukraine conflict. The war between Russia and Ukraine has entered its four years.
