‘Want to thank Iran for giving early notice’: Trump after strike on US base in Qatar

New Delhi: US President Donald Trump said on Monday that Iran had given the US advance notice before launching missiles at its military base in Qatar.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said that the “early notice” from Tehran ensured that no lives were lost. “I want to thank Iran for giving us early notice, which made it possible for no lives to be lost, and nobody to be injured,” he wrote.

Trump said: “I am pleased to report that NO Americans were harmed, and hardly any damage was done. Most importantly, they’ve gotten it all out of their ‘system,’ and there will, hopefully, be no further HATE.”

“Perhaps Iran can now proceed to Peace and Harmony in the Region, and I will enthusiastically encourage Israel to do the same,” Trump added.

In a separate post, Trump thanked the Emir of Qatar for “all that he has done in seeking Peace for the Region.” In another, he wrote: “CONGRATULATIONS WORLD, IT’S TIME FOR PEACE!”

The response from the US President came only hours after Iran fired a missile on a US air base in Qatar, to retaliate the US airstrikes on its nuclear facilities the day before.

The attack occurred soon after Qatar closed its airspace as a safety measure due to threats from Iran. The US said Iran fired missiles at its air base in Qatar but confirmed that no one was hurt.

Trump claimed that 14 missiles were launched by Iran towards its military base in Qatar, out of which 13 were intercepted.

Trump wrote: “Iran has officially responded to our Obliteration of their Nuclear Facilities with a very weak response, which we expected, and have very effectively countered. There have been 14 missiles fired — 13 were knocked down, and 1 was “set free,” because it was headed in a non-threatening direction.”
