Costa Rica: In a scene straight out of a crime thriller, prison guards in Costa Rica were stunned to discover a rather unusual drug mule—a black-and-white cat attempting to smuggle narcotics into a jail. The feline was caught near Pococí prison, strapped with tightly wrapped plastic bundles containing over 230 grams of marijuana and 67 grams of crack cocaine taped to its body.

Cat caught with drugs
The justice ministry said the drugs were intended for inmates behind the prison walls. “Thanks to the quick actions of acting officers, the cat was able to be caught, thus preventing them from reaching their final destination,” read an official statement on the ministry’s Facebook page. Video footage captured the dramatic chase, showing guards climbing fences to catch the whiskered smuggler, who had been stopped in its tracks by razor wire—an ironic twist worthy of being dubbed a “cat on a hot barbed roof.”
After being arrested, the cat was calmly restrained as officers carefully cut away the drug packages using scissors. The animal appeared surprisingly relaxed during the process, stretching out as the narcotics were removed. Authorities confirmed that the feline has been handed over to the national animal health service for medical evaluation and care.
