Washington: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday arrived in the United States for a two-day visit, receiving a warm welcome upon landing in Washington, DC. The PM was greeted by a crowd of enthusiastic supporters chanting “Modi-Modi” despite the cold weather.

Rousing welcome by Indian diaspora in US

PM Modi is staying at Blair House, the official state guest house in Washington, DC. Before heading there, he met members of Indian community who had gathered to welcome him. The excitement and energy of the people were palpable as they interacted with the Prime Minister.

During his visit, PM Modi met with Tulsi Gabbard, the National Intelligence Director, before his scheduled meeting with President Donald Trump. Sharing details about this interaction, PM Modi posted on X, stating, “Met Tulsi Gabbard. Congratulations to her for being appointed to this post. Discussed many aspects of India-US friendship.”

PM Modi to meet Donald Trump

The highlight of this visit is PM Modi’s meeting with US President Donald Trump, which will take place at the White House on Thursday. This will be their first meeting since Donald Trump became the President of the United States. 

Speaking about the meeting, PM Modi said, “I hope to meet Donald Trump. India-America will build a comprehensive global strategic partnership. Our nations will continue to work together for the benefit of our people and our better future.”

What’s likely to be discussed

During their discussions, PM Modi and President Trump are expected to cover a range of topics that include H-1B visas, green cards, trade and economic cooperation, and investments under the “Make in India” initiative. They are also likely to explore collaborations in areas such as semiconductors, the digital economy, artificial intelligence, and advanced military technologies.

According to sources, the talks may include key defense-related agreements such as the transfer of missile and drone technology, the supply of jet engines, and a potential deal involving F-35 fighter aircraft. The issue of illegal immigrants and strategic partnerships in defence and security are also expected to feature prominently in their discussions.
