Delhi: A powerful sandstorm reduced visibility in Riyadh, the Saudi capital, on Sunday. The strong storm forced residents indoors, and the buildings were cloaked in dust as strong winds lashed through the city.
Also, a strong dust storm struck the Al Qassim region on Saturday, plunging vast areas into near-darkness, toppling trees, and significantly impacting visibility in the region and its adjoining areas, local media reported.
The Saudi National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) had issued warnings about active winds and potential near-zero visibility in Al Qassim, urging residents to follow safety guidelines and remain updated with weather forecast.
The NCM had forecasted moderate to heavy thunderstorms, hail, and dust-raising winds across several regions, including Jazan, Asir, Al Baha, Mecca, Riyadh, and Al Qassim. The weather forecast agency had also announced that light to moderate winds were expected in parts of Ha’il, the Eastern Province, and the Northern Borders, extending to Al Jawf and Tabuk. Medina was also anticipated to experience active winds and reduced visibility.
