‘We stopped India and Pakistan from fighting’: Trump once again claims credit for ceasefire

Washington: US President Donald Trump once again claimed that he stopped India and Pakistan from fighting when tensions increased further between both countries. He claimed to have told both countries that the US wouldn’t be able to trade against countries that fight each other.

Addressing a press conference at the Oval Office along with billionaire businessman Elon Musk, he said as per PTI, “We stopped India and Pakistan from fighting. I believe that could have turned out into a nuclear disaster.” “We talked trade and we said we can’t trade with people that are shooting at each other and potentially using nuclear weapons’,” he claimed.

‘US has the greatest military in the world’

The President, further said, “We are stopping others from fighting also because ultimately, we can fight better than anybody. We have the greatest military in the world. We have the greatest leaders in the world,”

Days after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people lost their lives and several others were injured, India launched Operation Sindoor under which nine terrorist camps were destroyed in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. No military bases or other areas were attacked. However, Pakistan soon tried to target various locations in India only to be strongly thwarted by Indian armed forces. The ceasefire was declared on May 10.

Trump was the first to announce a ceasefire through a tweet. Even as he claimed several times that negotiations were ongoing between the two countries, India strongly rejected his claims, saying a ceasefire had been declared after discussions between the DGMOs of both countries. India has also said that it was Pakistan that had first approached the ceasefire.
