Prominent Columbian drug lord Fabio Ochoa has finally returned to his home country after spending 25 years in the prisons of United States. Fabio Ochoa was said to be the prime handler of Medellin cartel. The US authorities deported Ochao to Columbia after he spent over two decades in US jails.
It is said that 67-year-old drug lord Ochao became a billionaire and even made it to the Forbes list of billionaires after he amassed cast wealth smuggling drugs into US in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Ochao worked for Pablo Escobar
Fabio Ochoa once worked for famous drug lord Pablo Escobar, who was killed in a gunfight with US police in Medellin in 1993. Ochoa lived in Miami and was part of drug cartel headed by Pablo Escobar.
Fabio Ochoa’s first indictment
The first indictment of Ochao in US came when he was charged with the killing of a US pilot who flew cocaine flights for drug cartel Medellin. Pilot Barry Seal was killed in 1986 after he allegedly became an informant for US Drug Enforcement authorities.
Fabio Ochoa and his two older brothers surrendered to Colombian police following a deal in early 1990s to avoid being extradited to US. The brothers were freed in 1996 after spending 6 years in jail. However, Fabio Ochoa was rearrested and later extradited to US in 2001. His extradition came after Ochao was indicted in Miami.
Fabio Ochao’s depiction in Netflix series
Fabio Ochao faded from public memory long time back. However, the Medellin cartel member rose to prominence when he was depicted in a Nexflx series Griselda where he fought for the control of cocaine market in Miami.
Ochao was also featured in another Netflix webseries called Narcos. In the series, Ochao is shown as a son of an elite Medellin family.
