New Delhi: The Inaugural Luncheon, a key tradition in US presidential inaugurations, will be held shortly after the newly elected President Donald Trump delivers the inaugural address and takes the oath of office. His inaugural luncheon will combine history, custom, and cuisine. The traditional luncheon celebrates the peaceful transfer of power and the change of administration. It also marks a moment of celebration and unity.

Following the inaugural address, the President, along with their spouse, Vice President, Senate leaders, and distinguished guests, will be escorted to Statuary Hall in the US Capitol for the celebratory meal hosted by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC).

The tradition of the Inaugural Luncheon goes back to 1897 when President McKinley was hosted by the Senate Committee on Arrangements. The luncheon, in its current form, began in 1953 during President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s administration. The programme features speeches, gift presentations from the JCCIC, and toasts in honour of the new administration.
