New Delhi: Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated in Iranian capital Tehran by Israel on July 31. Details have now emerged claiming that senior Hamas leader, who was in Tehran for the inauguration of new President Masoud Pezeshkian, may have avoided getting killed if the air conditioning system in his room was not repaired on time.

The report suggested that had Haniyeh changed his room, the Hamas leader would have survived the killing by a small remote operated bomb. However, the technicians were able to fully repair the air condition and Haniyeh finally returned to the room where the bomb was placed.

Bomb smuggled in Iran before assassination

Israeli reports said that it took months of planning to assassinate Hamas leader. According to a report in New York Times, the bomb was reportedly smuggled into Iran months before the killing of Ismail Haniyeh. But FARS news agency linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps have refuted such reports and termed them false. Iranian authorities claimed that Haniyeh was assassinated by a rocket and Israel’s involvement could not be denied in the incident.
