Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that he will resign as the prime minister of the country after he expressed his willingness to step down due to Parliament impasse.
Announcing his resignation, Justin Trudeau said, “Since 2015 I fought for this country for you Canadians, to strengthen middle class, to defend free trade on our continent and to stand with Ukraine. We are at critical moment in world history. I am a fighter because I care deeply about Canadians. Despite best efforts, Parliament has ben paralysed. I advised Governor General that we need a new parliamentary session and she granted that request.”
Justin Trudeau has also resigned from the post of Liberal Party leader. Justin Trudeau led the party for 11 years and announced his resignation as his popularity in the country nearly hit rock bottom.
Trudeau also has been facing pressure to step down as prime minister following the December 16 resignation of his Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland who claimed that she and Trudeau had been “at odds” over the best path forward for Canada.
Also, the Canadian Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee has been expected to hold a meeting on January 7 to consider a motion of no-confidence in Trudeau’s government.
