Mediated by Qatar, negotiations for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages held by Hamas are reportedly in their final stages. Qatar’s foreign ministry spokesman, Majed al-Ansari, expressed cautious optimism, stating that while significant progress has been made and most obstacles overcome, an official announcement is still pending. He emphasized the need to avoid premature celebration until a formal agreement is reached.
“We do believe that we are at the final stages… certainly we are hopeful that this would lead very soon to an agreement,” foreign ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari tells a news conference, adding that “until there is an announcement… we shouldn’t be over-excited about what’s happening right now.”
