New Delhi: The Pakistan government has beefed up security for Lashkar-e-Taiba & Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed. This comes after the terror attack in India’s Pahalgam on April 22. The security has been increased fearing a response from India, which may target Saeed directly, said a report in the Times of India.

Former commandos deployed at Saeed residence

According to the report in the newspaper, former commandos from the Special Service Group have been assigned for his security. Also security personnel have been deployed at his residence in Mohalla Johar in Lahore. Reports also said that he has been shifted to a densely populated area where common Pakistanis live and which also has a mosque and a madrassa.

On paper, Saeed is imprisoned and the authorities have now converted his home into a sub-jail. A control room has been set up, complete with a CCTV to monitor any suspicious movements in the area.

Saeed is on the most-wanted list of terrorists in both India and in the US. He is accused of plotting the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks and also the Pahalgam attack of April 22, 2025. He is currently in Pakistan’s government custody and is reportedly serving a 46-year sentence for his involvement in 7 terror financing cases. This is however only on paper and the reality is that the Pakistan government has been protecting him from being deported to India to be tried for his involvement in terror related cases here.

Saeed is frequently spotted in public, surrounded by security. Those assigned for his security include former SSG commandos. He has made at least 2 dozen appearances in public, since being “jailed” in 2022. His latest appearance was in February 2025.

India meanwhile has vowed to avenge the deaths of tourists in Pahalgam. Terrorists gunned down 26 people in Pahalagam’s Baisaran meadow on April 22. Those killed were first asked their religion and then killed mercilessly. PM Narendra Modi has said that India will hunt down and punish those involved in the heinous attack.
