Washington: A case involving an alleged threat to the life of US President Donald Trump has come to light. Claims surfaced that former FBI Director James Comey may have made a social media post that could be interpreted as a call to harm the President.
The situation came to light when Tulsi Gabbard, US National Intelligence director, posted on X that James Comey had recently made a statement calling for violence against President Trump. She said, “James Comey just issued a call to action to murder the President of the United States.”

Comey must be held accountable, says Tulsi Gabbard
Tulsi Gabbard said, given Comey’s background as a federal prosecutor and former FBI Director, he would have been fully aware of the weight of his words and must be held legally accountable. Gabbard also said, “We fully support the Secret Service investigation into Comey’s threat on President Trump’s life.”
Reports also mentioned that code 8647 was used in relation to the alleged threat. According to interpretations circulating online, “86” is sometimes used as a code word meaning to kill, and Trump is currently the 47th President of the United States, making 8647 potentially symbolic in this context. However, this code reference has not been officially confirmed by investigators.
FBI, Secret Service to probe case
Responding to the situation, FBI Director Kash Patel posted on X, “We are aware of the recent social media post by former FBI Director James Comey, directed at President Trump. We are in communication with the Secret Service and Director Curran. Primary jurisdiction is with the Secret Service on these matters and we, the FBI, will provide all necessary support.”

At present, the matter is under investigation. No official charges have been announced. The Secret Service, which is responsible for protecting the President, is leading the inquiry, with the FBI offering support as needed.
Trump shot on ear during poll rally
This development came nearly a year after a security incident in the United States. On July 13, 2024, during an election rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, Donald Trump was shot in the right ear by an attacker while delivering a speech. The bullet struck the upper part of his ear, injuring him. Trump was immediately taken to the hospital and later discharged in stable condition.
The shooting also resulted in the death of one person, while two others were injured. The attacker was shot dead by a Secret Service sniper on the spot. Then-President Joe Biden condemned the incident, stating that “there is no place for such violence in America.”
