Who was Hossein Salami?
General Hossein Salami, the commander-in-chief of the IRGC, was born in Golpayagen in 1960. Hussain joined IRGC, in his college days, when the Iran-Iraq war was brewing.
On April 21, 2019, he was promoted to the position of Deputy Commander by replacing Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari. Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamnei, appointed him as the new Commander-in-Chief.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard was founded after the 1979 Islamic revolution. In addition to being one of the significant power blocks of Iran, it also regulates Iran’s arsenal of ballistic missiles. It has attacked Israel twice during the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip.
The Guard is said to be the core of the theocratic state of Iran. It looks after the economic interests of the state, along with the regulation of the arsenal of ballistic missile.
His aggressive approach
Salami was an extremist leader known for his antagonistic statements. Most of his speeches acted as sheer warnings to America. He deliberately stated that the Mahasa Amini protest was a foreign conspiracy. Back in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, he blamed America publicly for the deaths.
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel struck Iran’s nuclear facility at Natanz and targeted scientists. He added that the operation against Iran would “continue as many days as it takes.”
According to the Iranian media, the attack was a retaliation to the tensions that escalated when US declared Iran’s assurance for a halt in the production of a material in an atom bomb.
